From early smoke detection to thermal verification: A smarter bushfire monitoring workflow

Early detection is critical in protecting forests and remote assets from wildfire. This video demonstrates how the SOARVISION 1050 ultra-long-range PTZ camera, deployed on an elevated tower, supports a complete monitoring workflow, from routine patrol and AI detection to operator verification at the monitoring centre.


1. Wide-Area Patrol from an Elevated Position

Compared with sending every video stream to a central server for analysis, edge-based detection offers several practical advantages:

  • Faster alerting, as analysis occurs close to the image source without depending on round-trip transmission to a central analytics platform.

  • Lower bandwidth demand, particularly valuable for remote towers connected through constrained wireless, cellular or satellite links.

  • Reduced central-server workload, making it easier to scale monitoring across multiple cameras and sites.

The monitoring centre remains essential: Edge AI identifies potential events, while trained operators make the contextual judgement needed to confirm and respond.


3. Operator Review and Thermal Double Check

After receiving an alert, monitoring personnel can take control of the PTZ camera, zoom in on the target area and assess the situation in greater detail. Visible imaging helps evaluate the appearance and location of suspected smoke, while thermal imaging provides a second check for abnormal heat sources.

4. Clearer Information for Faster Response

Once a potential fire event has been verified, the system provides timely visual information to support field inspection, incident coordination and emergency response.
