It is much harder to clearly monitor places that all look the same over a large area (e.g., forests, oceans) than buildings and streets, as the main objects in a wide scene are constantly changing and light changes are very complex due to more natural factors.
It is a short video to capture a vessel underway in the Port Phillip, approximately 11kms away from our long-range camera. Due to sunlight, heat waves or other factors, objects are not very sharp when zoomed in, even if they are still within the range of the camera's focal lens. We also demonstrate the effect of optical fogging in the video. When defogging is on, it is only displayed in B/W as the sensor changes to work in the near-infrared band of 800-1000nm. It is an image enhancement technique which helps to enhance the contrast and make objects more distinguishable.
